My name is Mia jacobson
I am 37 years old, a third generation West-Seattleite, a third generation union Longshoreman, and a single mother of 3. I was born in the house that I’m raising kids in, a house my parents could afford with a single income, and one that I cannot afford, working the same job my father did.
I spent nearly 5 years attempting to enter the local legislative process as a private citizen and found it systemically impossible to do so. In our current process, public comment is structurally performative:
Even if a committee meeting is open to the public, every comment opportunity is limited to 2 minutes and rigidly controlled by a preset agenda.
Representatives are not required to respond to any comment made. This means that if a council member feels any comment is irrelevant, or if they not like what is being said - the commenter is escorted out of the room.
Our government is not legally required to listen to us during any step of the policy making process.
We have been lied to for decades.
We have all been aggressively conditioned to believe that:
The best thing we can do for our community is vote.
Different opinions can only result in conflict.
Competing for resources is not only necessary, it is also highly functional and morally good.
These 3 statements are not supported by any evidence outside of our social agreement with them. We make our society by consenting to them, saying “Oh this isn’t working but that’s how it is.” If anyone tells you that change is not possible because “that’s how it is,” they have never questioned why it has to be that way.
We are following the crowd over a cliff without questioning where we are going.
I am running a Rabbit Campaign to disrupt the social hypnosis that what we are doing is working. I don’t need your money - the city of Seattle needs your participation. Because election will only open the doors to city hall, we have to walk through them on our own.
IT’S TIME TO LEAVE THE STREETS AND FLOOD OUR COUNCIL CHAMBERS.
