WHEN WHAT WE’RE DOING ISN’T WORKING,
WE NEED TO CHANGE WHAT WE’RE DOING.
WHAT ARE WE DOING? WE DO WHAT WE‘RE TOLD. THAT’S HOW IT WORKS.
WHEN DOING WHAT WE’RE TOLD ISN’T WORKING,
WE NEED TO CHANGE WHAT WE’RE DOING.
TO CHANGE WHAT WE’RE DOING
WE DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS
GOING ON HERE?
We are told that to be heard, someone else must speak for us. This is no longer the case - but everybody thinks it’s “normal” to let 9 people decide how we live our lives, so nobody questions it. We feel comfortable with things we’re used to, like the frog in boiling water. We need to do something now.
NORMAL IS NOT “REAL” OR “RIGHT”
“NORMAL” DESCRIBES WHAT WE’RE USED TO.
We’re living in an age with toddlers operating tablets while the grandparents in government used the internet for the first time in their 40’s. Our exposure to technology dramatically affects what we think is “normal.” Our parents couldn’t question what they were told while our children have never known anything else. We are in a transitional period between generations as the younger generation grows into society. It’s time to get ready. We need to do something now.
THE ONLY THING STOPPING US
IS OUR OWN EXPECTATION
WE’VE BEEN PLAYING PRETEND
IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP
WHEN “HOW IT WORKS” DOESN’T WORK FOR US
WE CAN GIVE UP OR WE CAN DISRUPT
WHEN WE DO WHAT WE’RE TOLD
AND WE DON’T QUESTION IT
“HOW IT WORKS” IS A FORM
OF SOCIAL HYPNOSIS.
A BATON BELONGS
TO EVERYONE
If we can access social media 24 hours a day - why can’t we engage with our legislative process whenever we want? People everywhere are already using online platforms and digital tools to educate and organize themselves around solutions to our modern problems.
IT’S TIME TO BRING THAT ENERGY TO CITY HALL.
OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS
NEED ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GET.
Three simple policies will allow us to have a collective conversation with everyone in our city:
online public forums parallel to each standing committee that use data scrapes and analytics to routinely summarize huge amounts of information.
interactive digital maps for citizens to drop pins of interest to routinely summarize huge amounts of information.
social unions formed around industry, interest, and issue that provide oversight for any proposal or policy found inadequate.
WHOEVER DOES THE JOB KNOWS IT BEST
WHOEVER HAS THE ISSUE KNOWS ITS ADDRESS
IF WE FIND THOSE STATEMENTS TOO HARD TO ACCEPT
RESPECTFULLY SPEAKING
WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET.
A CANDIDATE PASSES THE BATON
TO THE CITY AS A BEACON
The only time our city has a conversation about major change is during the election cycle - and the only way to access that conversation is to run for council. Instead of entering the race to ask you for money you don’t have, so they can fix problems they don’t have, the candidate uses their platform to identify that our local policy making process is no longer working to address our issues.
THEY DO NOT PROMOTE THEIR OWN AGENDA
OR DEFEND THEIR OWN BIAS
THEY ANSWER EVERY QUESTION THE SAME WAY:
“One person is not capable of speaking for thousands. It is a radical and dangerous waste of time to wait for one person to figure out what thousands of people already know - when we can just give the people a chance to speak.”
CITIZENS PASS THE BATON
TO THE COUNCIL AS A BRIDGE
We don’t have time to wait for another election. Instead of flooding the streets or streaming Federal chaos on our screen - bring your friends to a local council meeting. Sign up for public comment as much as you can. Tell our council we are ready to join the conversation which creates legislation.
ASK THEM ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE.
STAND THERE UNTIL THEY ANSWER.
IF THEY TRY TO KICK YOU OUT JUST SAY:
“I am speaking to the agenda because I am speaking to the process by which the agenda was created. I am speaking to the proposal because I am speaking to the process by which this proposal was created.”
COMMUNITY PASSES THE BATON
TO THE COLLECTIVE AS A BADGE
When we’re told there is a race to win, Rabbit is an idea that we share. It sets a new community standard that uplifts us rather than beats us into political debate. There are so many solutions already being explored within our population. We must compare evidence based practices instead of fighting over who makes decisions for us. We need to be better to each other; help one another. Everyone is struggling so we must give them grace, ourselves included.
INSTEAD OF PROTESTING THE POWERS THAT BE
RABBIT ASKS US TO CELEBRATE
THE POWERS THAT WE HAVE BECOME.
RUN RABBIT TO PULL BACK THE CURTAIN
VOTE RABBIT TO OPEN THE DOOR
SEE RABBIT TO BE CERTAIN
WHAT WE’RE DOING IS WORKING
BE RABBIT TO BECOME SOMETHING MORE
